Below are details of courses for the rest of this year, and into 2013, please read on for details.

As ever all are welcome to attend these courses, once the original groups have been offered places. Usually we can offer space, so please call/mail if you would like to join any of these courses. It has been a pleasure to have osteopaths from across Europe and from previous groups in the UK rejoining the courses, a true community with fertile exchange, really sweet.

A first for me in the UK is the planned Review Course 24-27 January 2013.

In this course we plan to review the journey taken through the opening four phases of the program. Reminding ourselves of the palpatory and sensory bridges crossed as we move from motion testing to motion present, then to a relationship with the fluids and fluid drive, the Sea Around Us, it’s motion as the long tide and it’s soft potency expressing in different tissue functions, and thus to the Midline phenomena, exploring the consequences of “letting Deity centre us”, as Dr Becker so perfectly put it.

This course is open to all who have studied with the program, however long ago, or recently. We will build a study group with open and honest enquiry to reinforce our foundations in this beautiful osteopathic work. Places are available on a first come basis, with a limit of 22 participants.

Osteopaths from existing groups for these courses will be mailed at least 2 months before the course dates to book as needed, after which places will be made available to all. It has been a real delight having osteopaths from across course and groups attending, it really feels as if the movement of the courses is maturing.

Phase 7 group. The Phase 7 U.K. group will be based around a group of Dutch osteopaths who have been exploring the courses together for 5 years. The course venue is Croydon Hall, green and peaceful, with great facilities for relaxation too. There should be a few places available on this course, which is open to all. Please contact the office to express an interest in attending this meeting.

The Treatment of Children Phase 3 will be the final course in the treatment of children program, and concludes with a series of clinical applications of the principles explored so far. Levels of stillness and the role of the meeting place, the crucial role of rebalancing in augmenting fluid drive, an introduction  to treatment from embryological “seams”, treatment of plagiocephaly, Downs syndrome and “genetic” conditions etc.

Also, we are trying to gauge demand for a potential new Phase 1 group and Treatment of Children group, to perhaps begin at the end of 2011. If you would be interested in these courses, or know of osteopaths who might be interested, please mail the office to let us know.

As you may know, Dr Brian Freeman is the editor of and author to the invaluable forward of Erich Blechschmidt’s last published book, The Ontogenetic Basis of Human Anatomy, The Biodynamic Approach to Development from Conception to Adulthood.

Retired from the University of New South Wales in 2009 Dr Freeman enjoyed teaching all aspects of anatomy (macroscopic, microscopic, and developmental) to students in many different programs: medicine, science, ultrasound, biomedical engineering, etc.) from 1974 to 2008. He was Director of Teaching in the School of Medical Sciences from 2001 to 2006.  Dr Freeman is now a senior Visiting Fellow in the School of Medical Sciences, U.N.S.W.

We are delighted to have Dr Freeman coming to give 2 days of presentations on Dr Blechschmidt’s work, the Biodynamic principles explored by Dr Blechschmidt, and aspects of regional development of the embryo under the biodynamic influence of local metabolic fluid fields within the whole.

• Cell migration or differentiation?

2) New U.K. Phase 1 group.
With requests coming in for new courses we are planning a new U.K. Phase 1 group, these courses are open to all osteopaths with an interest in Dr Sutherland’s work. 3) Conference with Dr Brian Freeman, July 3/4, 2010.
We have arranged for Dr Brian Freeman PhD, anatomist, embryologist and editor of the text “The Ontogenetic Basis of Human Anatomy: The Biodynamic Approach to Development from Conception to Adulthood” by Erich Blechschmidt, to visit the UK.

We are offering a weekend of embryology presentations of Dr Blechschmidts’ truly wholistic view of the subject. This will be held in Bath over July 3 &4, 2010. Full details and booking will be sent out towards the end of the year, but you might like to put this date in your diary now? Places will be limited to 120 by the venue size. The approximate cost of this weekend conference will be £160. We are taking provisional bookings by email at www.ChurchStreetPractice.co.uk

4) Paediatric training program. Following in the footsteps of the beautiful learning at the Swiss Academy for Traditional Osteopathy’s pediatric program, the Swiss Osteopathic Clinic for Kids, S.O.C.K., we are working on a similar program to be based in Bradford on Avon.

We are hoping to offer 4-6 training units per year at our own U.K. S.O.C.K., (Sunrise Osteopathic Clinic for Kids). Teaching will be delivered by osteopaths experienced in the care of children, with a passion for osteopathy and their specialist subject.
The study units of approximately one and a half days, will then be consolidated in a practical setting by an open clinic session day at S.O.C.K. treating patients as a team.

At present plans are to begin possibly in Spring, but more likely Autumn 2010. Please register your interest by email to the practice: Email The Practice Here.

There is also the possibility for 2-3 osteopaths who would be willing to commit to visit on a regular basis to join our current S.O.C.K. osteopathic team here in Bradford on Avon. Our group clinic currently runs monthly for a half day, but has filled rapidly and is ready to expand significantly. Working as part of a group, treating mainly four handed on a wide range of clinical paediatric cases, we share our knowledge to offer osteopathic support to local kids. Ideally osteopaths will have a foundation of several years experience treating children, and an interest in the biodynamic osteopathic approach of Dr James Jealous.
